Hemiptera (True Bugs)

The true bugs (Hemiptera) comprise one of the larger groups of insects found in the UK, with nearly 2000 species. True bugs include (among many others), shieldbugs, plant bugs, bed bugs, pondskaters, aphids and scale insects. The mouthparts of true bugs are contained in a beak (or rostrum), which is usually held underneath the body when not in use.
